Every new parent wants to record all their child's special memories. The trick is to decide how you will put together your information, personal notes and pictures into the ultimate baby book. The makers of It's My Baby Journal are trying to bring journaling into the 21st century to help new parents capture the important treasured moments of their children's growth and development

Kid Appeal

It's My Baby Journal takes the traditional baby album, scrapbook and journal and ties it altogether into a digital multimedia computer based biography.

This is a fabulous idea for the busy tech savvy parents or grandparents of today. The draw is the all-inclusive nature of the software which includes all the popular and attractive elements of scrap booking or baby albums without the materials and the mess. The program is family friendly by allowing up to 5 different ongoing baby biographies. Moving from one child to another is simple. Parents can easily work on their children's biographies whenever they have a moment or two. The page backgrounds, charts and labels are bright and cheery with playful fonts.

The program begins with a template of the first child's beginning biographical information such as name, date of birth, weight, height, hospital, and the doctor's and nurses' names. On the bottom there is a spot for a digital photo. From there, you can move into the main journaling portion of the program which allows you to journal your thoughts and info via an advanced word processor. The program keeps track of your entries by date. Anytime along the way, you may attach media files such as video, picture, text, or audio to your journal entries. A nice additional feature is the attachment manager which helps keep you organized. You may choose to journal by popular/traditional categories such as Current Events, Dear Baby, Favorites, Holidays, Birthdays. The category called, Your Growing Baby provides you with a growth chart including height and weight by age and also an adorable tooth chart. A Photo Album separate from the journal, allows you to insert 100's of pictures and a Family Tree Chart can capture up to 5 generations of family history. Hardcopy versions of your work is possible since It's My Baby Journal is printable.

Ease of Use / Install

The program installation is fast and easy. A quick virtual tour takes you through the program and shows you the options along the way. There are help options within the software on screen as well as an instructional guide. If all else fails, one can access help on line via the web site, but first watch their Flash Tour. Navigation throughout the program isn't completely straightforward or intuitive, but this is due mostly to the location of the option buttons. With a little exploring, one can maneuver around fairly easily. The 'Quick Search' option in the program allows you to find particular journal entries or jump right to that special memory by typing in keywords.

Best for... / Bottom-Line

Parent/grandparents who enjoy utilizing the computer for everyday tasks would prefer a program like this instead of buying acid-free paper, fancy scissors, stickers and pens. Families who already own digital still or movie cameras and currently share photos via the web may find the software to be a helpful organizer for their images and footage. owever, if you enjoy attending cropping parties, buying fancy paper and materials and appreciate the fine art of traditional scrap booking, this program is not for you.
