How to Convert Mixed Numbers to Improper Fractions

A mixed number has 2 elements: a whole number and a fraction. An improper fraction has a numerator that is greater than or equal to its denominator.

To convert from a mixed number to an improper fraction, simply:
a) Multiply the whole number by the denominator of the fraction
b) Add the numerator to the result
c) Place the total above the original denominator

Example:
Convert 3 2/7 to an improper fraction.

(a) 3 x 7 = 21
(b) 21 + 2 = 23
(c) 23/7

The final answer is 23/7
