Stationery Studio is a unique tool that allows teachers and students to create and print themed writing papers and templates for reports, letters, shape books and creative writing projects. The program is designed to support the typical classroom where access to computers is limited, and most writing projects and test taking are done by hand. Created to encourage students doing handwritten projects, Stationery Studio is not meant to replace word processing programs. The program does include basic text so that teachers can make story starters and handwriting practice sheets.

Stationery Studio reaches across all curricular areas. Users can choose from over 225 themed designs which range from the general: animals, butterflies to the more specific: Ancient Egypt, pilgrims. The designs can be customized with 5 line styles, 5 line widths, 5 line colors and 10 layout options. The finished stationery can be printed in a variety of formats: postcards, mini books, notecards and activity sheets. Teachers have the option to print all designs in black and white for photocopying or if they want students to hand color the images.

Educational Value

Stationery Studio supports the development of writing skills across the curriculum. Students will develop penmanship, vocabulary and spelling, narrative writing, descriptive writing, expository writing, journal writing and social communications. Included in the program are over 60 ready-made writing activities for social studies, language arts, math science and health.

Students are engaged in the writing process from topic selection to publication when provided with customized writing materials appropriate to their interest and developmental level.

Kid Appeal

The kid appeal in Stationery Studio is not necessarily in the use of it, but in the finished product. Kids were excited to complete letters or writing assignments when given customized stationery and project sheets. Kids and their parents also liked working together to create customized book covers for reports and postcards. A favorite feature for families is the option to import a digital photo into the stationery or postcard.

Ease of Use / Install

Stationery Studio is extremely easy to use. The program includes both a written User’s Guide and a thorough virtual “guided tour” of the program’s features. The typical user should be able to install the program and create a first project in about 20-30 minutes.

Best for... / Bottom-Line

This is an incredibly useful program for teachers wanting to find new ways to motivate and support students’ writing skills. Teachers will think of dozens of different ways to make use of Stationery Studio.

Parents who want to encourage their children’s communication skills through letter writing to relatives will also benefit from this program. Students will find writing book reports and stories for homework more enjoyable when they have a chance to design and customize images and layout to support their work.
