Professor Finkle's Beginning Divison teaches introductory division through lesson videos, games, and printable worksheets. The player can choose to do these activities in any order they wish, however the activities are provided in a suggested order on the menu. The title character, Professor Finkle, keeps the player (student) entertained by dressing up and acting as a number or characters such as a pirate, cowboy, and caveman while teaching each of the lessons. This very animated game effectively teaches and drills the player on everything from simple division such as 6/2 = 3, to inverse properties, division of fractions, and long division.

Educational Value

Professor Finkle's Beginning Divison teaches division through videos, games/drills, and practice worksheets. Fourteen videos explain and demonstrate each concept. For instance, introductory simple division is taught by evenly separating beans into various numbers of cups. Other short videos cover the complete gamut of basic division concepts, including checking by multiplying, remainders, prime numbers, place value, and long division. The games include timed drills, completing factor trees, and lightning speed multiple choice. Lastly, to allow the player to continue division practice away from the computer, the game provides printable practice worksheets for each division concept covered.

Kid Appeal

Professor Finkle makes learning division as fun as it can be — but kids will probably be able too see through the game and realize that they are learning. This realization may be enough to turn some kids away from the game, but if the player chooses to dedicate some time to the game daily or even just weekly, he or she will learn basic division. The subject matter of this game is most appropriate for students in 2nd to 4th grade. Parents will definitely like this game for their kids.

Ease of Use / Install

No installation is necessary to use Professor Finkle's Beginning Divison . It plays directly off the CD. The game itself is very easy to navigate because of its clear and appropriately ordered menus. Kids will be able to load and play this game without help from adults.

Best for... / Bottom-Line

Professor Finkle's Beginning Divison is a useful educational tool, and is appropriate for any age student learning basic division.
